Open the recap & discussion — spoilers
An endless maze begins to reflect the memories and fears of the people who enter it.
Clark finds the entrance
Furniture-store owner Clark discovers a glowing slit in his basement and falls into an expanse of yellow rooms and corridors. An Async researcher watches through surveillance equipment.
The attempt to gather proof
Clark brings employee Kat and her boyfriend Bobby to film the place. An unseen entity kills Bobby, and Clark and Kat become separated during their attempt to escape.
Mary enters the maze
After Clark leaves a strange message saying he will stay, his therapist Mary enters the Backrooms. Clark restrains her among grotesque human copies and wants her to continue their sessions.
The distorted pirate
A towering copy of Clark in his store’s pirate costume kills him and pursues Mary. She fights it until an Async trap is triggered and researchers take her to their facility.
A copied room and an unanswered question
Researcher Phil questions Mary, who describes the Backrooms as a faulty copy of reality. He cannot promise she will be released. The film ends in a distorted copy of the interrogation room with a malformed version of Mary sitting silently.
The final image suggests the space has incorporated her experience, while her fate and the full nature of the Backrooms remain uncertain.
