When the monster movie comes alive
Minions & Monsters recapped: James’s filmmaking dream, Goomi’s plan and the ending. Major spoilers.

Open the recap & discussion — spoilers
A group of Minions finds fame in silent cinema and discovers that making a monster movie can become a real adventure.
From henchmen to silent stars
James loves drawing and storytelling, and finds friends in Henry and Ed. While looking for a villain to serve, their group interrupts a 1927 film shoot and becomes popular in silent movies.
James wants to make a film
The arrival of sound cinema leaves the Minions out of work. James imagines his own monster movie; Henry and Ed leave the larger group to help him, and director Max lends them a camera.
The helpful monster has a plan
A spell book brings forth Goomi, who offers to find monsters for the film. He frees Howard and Phillips, but his real aim is to summon the enormous many-eyed Irene and destroy the world.
The filming becomes a rescue
Henry discovers the plan. Irene is summoned and swallows him, but James drives through her to rescue him. Dort returns with the other Minions in spacecraft, and they turn Irene to stone.
A film within a film
James and Henry send Goomi and the other monsters back with an undo spell. Ed has filmed the battle, enabling the group to complete James’s movie, which receives a standing ovation.
The museum framing is then revealed as part of a film directed by James and Henry. The ending celebrates the friends’ collaboration while playfully reminding us that the story itself is a production.
